Catalogue published in conjunction with Atul Dodiya's solo exhibition 'Malevich Matters & Other Shutters' at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi from March to April 2010. The roller shutter has served as a surface for Dodiya's paintings for more than a decade. In this recent series though, he chooses to reverse and complicate this by painting images of roller shutters on canvas. These are paintings of paintings, containing extracts of pictorial and textual data from his archive of diverse references and incorporating images drawn from the vocabularies of Dada artists, the Surrealists and Soviet avant-gardes. Artist's and author's biographies are included.
